About Us
In the "Elevator Capital of the World," two brothers forged a legacy. Jim and Steve Duffy, armed with decades of experience ingrained from a renowned elevator company, MAINCO, founded Richmond Elevator in 1990. Carrying on a tradition of excellence acquired through MAINCO, they brought unmatched expertise and dedication to New York City's demanding vertical transportation landscape. Their brother Andy brought a different kind of depth to the founding. A NYCHPD Inspector and owner-operator of his own residential repair business, Andy had trained as a draftsman at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where he assisted in building ships for the Navy, and understood what it took to build something from scratch. He developed the marketing strategy that brought in Richmond Elevator's first jobs and helped shape the company's early direction. Andy passed away in 2017, but his contribution to what Richmond Elevator became is still part of the foundation.
Richmond Elevator quickly became a trusted partner for property owners and managers, known for their personalized service and commitment to safety. With a 21,000-square-foot facility housing a fully equipped machine shop, electrical test bench, and extensive electronic inventory, they ensured swift responses and comprehensive solutions for any elevator challenge.
Over 35 years in, the company is still family-run, still based in Staten Island, and still built around the same principle Jim and Steve started with: do the job properly and the relationships take care of themselves.
